If one searches the authoritative Handbook of Texas to learn about the fate of early Bastropians, the final resting place frequently cited is Fairview Cemetery, the historic 36-acre graveyard along SH 95 located on a hill overlooking downtown.
On October 23rd, BCHS will present two detailed walking tours of the cemetery, with docents and local actors presenting lively explanations of the citizens buried there and other highlights of the location. The tour will cover about a mile and last about 90 minutes.
Registration for each of the tours is limited to 20 individuals; reservations may be made by contacting BCHS at 512-303-0057 or online. If you need special arrangements please let us know.
The project is being spearheaded by Board member Sandra Chipley and Museum Curator Robbie Sanders.
More than 3,500 gravesites may be found in the Fairview Cemetery.
