The Bastrop County Historical Society welcomes those who would like to volunteer their time.

The facility offers a great avenue for learning about Bastrop Country history as well as what Bastrop can offer residents & tourists.

Do you have a few hours a week, or time every month, and want to be involved with Bastrop's history?  We are seeking volunteers to help in all aspects of our work.  Volunteer roles include: Museum Inspector, Assistant Special Exhibit Manager, Oral History Interviewer, Oral History Coordinator, Junior Historian Program Assistant, Archives Assistant, and Docents.

Visitor Center

Do you love Bastrop? Would you like to learn more about the community? Do you enjoy meeting new people? Then you qualify to become an ambassador for Bastrop as a volunteer in our visitor center. Volunteering at the visitor center is great fun. You'll meet people from all over the country, and from other countries, who have come to experience Bastrop. If you would like to volunteer at the Visitor Center, contact Barbara Vana, Museum Administrator, at 512.303.0904.

Library and Archives

Carol Kysar, the Museum's archivist, will train you to perform simple data entry in a program called "Past Perfect." Here you can soak up knowledge in regard to the many facets of our county's history -- from El Camino Real de los Tejas, to the settlement of Bastrop County, our quest for independence, the various industries which helped to support our economy (lumber, cotton, coal), stories of families who lived in Bastrop, historic homes, Camp Swift and World War II, etc. You'll help to create an inventory list so that staff is aware of the location and information regarding each item received, stored or that is on display. To volunteer to help with archives, contact Carol Kysar, Archivist, at 512.303.0057.

The Bastrop Historical Society is starting a new docent program. If you are interested in Texas history, help us make it come alive for our guests as a tour guide at a museum. You may also be asked to perform many different tasks as needed in the museum galleries. Training will be provided.

Do you love garage sales, decorating, acting as a docent in historical homes? We hold several fund-raising events each year and we need volunteers to make them successful. The Historical Society coordinates the annual Holiday Homes Tour, a community-wide garage sale, and step-on tours of historic homes. Let us know if you would like to participate in any of these events. We'd love to have you join our team! Contact Barbara Vana, Museum Administrator, at 512.303.0057.
