Bastrop’s iconic Yesterfest event is staging a comeback on May 20, 2023, in historic downtown Bastrop!
May is National Preservation Month, and a uniquely Bastrop event with over 27 years of history will again draw tourists to the historic downtown following a more than 5-year hiatus. Yesterfest 2023 proposes highlighting Bastrop’s diverse history for tourists through re-enactors, demonstrators, vendors, speakers, storytellers, and music. The event is smaller this year as it begins again and will engage visitors with a circa 1830s saloon and bowling alley, a Native American camp complete with teepee, a blacksmith demonstration, vendors along Pine Street, acoustic music performances (no sound systems blaring this year), and a Soap Box stand showcasing storytellers and speakers.
For the event attendee, begin at the Bastrop County Historical Society Museum & Visitor Center at 904 Main Street, collect a program/map of the event, and stroll through the museum. Now, steeped in Bastrop history, step outside and see history come alive along Pine and Water Streets. Visit with vendors selling homemade items; see re-enactments and demonstrations; listen to homespun music (no amplifiers here!); listen to storytellers and speakers on topics that recall yesterday and teach sustainable practices for now and the future. Enjoy Bastrop’s historic downtown vibe filled with very up-to-date restaurants and shops.
Yesterfest 2023 is a free event designed to engage downtown visitors in historic preservation while supporting a vibrant, modern community.
