BCHS Collections
Historical Shrine (1952) & Recorded Texas Historic Landmark (1967)
Designated a Historical Shrine by the Texas Legislature in 1952 and recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark in 1967.
Recorded Texas Historic Landmarks are properties recognized by the Texas Historical Commission (THC) as historically and architecturally significant. This designation is awarded to buildings at least 50 years old that are worthy of preservation for their historical associations and architectural integrity.
Non-Profit of the Year (2023)
Awarded by the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce
The Non-Profit of the Year Award recognizes organizations that provide exceptional service to the Bastrop community, demonstrate strong leadership, and maintain sound management practices. Eligible organizations must have operated for at least three years and remain members in good standing with the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce.
John L. Nau, III Award of Excellence in Museums (2023)
Presented by the Texas Historical Commission
Named in honor of Texas Historical Commission Chair John L. Nau III, this award recognizes an individual or institution in the museum field for significant achievement in historical interpretation, museum education, conservation of collections, and community involvement.

Recognized as a Top 3 finalist in the Official Community’s Choice Awards in Austin for Best Museum. Produced by USA Today Ventures and powered by the Austin American-Statesman, the awards allow residents to nominate and vote for outstanding businesses and organizations across more than 160 categories.
Best of Bastrop County – Best Museum (2023, 2024, 2025)
The Bastrop County Museum & Visitor Center was voted “Best Museum” in the annual Best of Bastrop County awards for three consecutive years. Celebrating local businesses, organizations, and community favorites, the awards are determined through public nominations and community voting.
Heroes & Hotrods Special Partner (2023, 2024, 2025)
Recognized as a special partner of the annual Heroes & Hotrods Veterans Day Car Show for hosting event headquarters in the museum’s Special Exhibit Room. Through this partnership, the Bastrop Area Cruisers provides generous grant support allowing active-duty military members and veterans free admission to the museum.
Wassail Fest – Best Wassail Winner (2022)
Awarded “Best Wassail” by Downtown Bastrop during the annual Wassail Fest celebration, as voted on by event participants.
