From kid-friendly programs to rotating scavenger hunts, the Museum & Visitor Center offers fun and history for the whole family!

Children 12 and under always have free museum admission!

Reserve 45 minutes to an hour to explore our exhibits. Free, clean restrooms are available.

The museum may be small but is jam-packed with information and artifacts. You might even want to come back multiple times!

Our special exhibits last on average two months, so be sure to check out our homepage to see the current exhibit.

Need to take a break? Your admission is good for the whole day! Feel free to leave, walk around Main Street or the river, get a bite to eat, or catch story time at the bookstore, and then come back. If you need a place to take a break in the visitor center from touring downtown, you are more than welcome to do so!

Family Make N Take - Every second Saturday from 12-3 PM, we host a special family event with a different theme each month. Past events have included activities such as rope-making, weaving, puppets, lanterns, poetry, Texas bingo and much more! Check out the most recent in the Upcoming Events page!
Scavenger Hunt - Every month we create a new scavenger hunt of items throughout the museum to peak kids' interest. Once kids find all the items, they get to choose a prize from the treasure chest!
Dress Up - Step back to the 1830s in our kid-sized period clothing! These garments are laundered regularly and are perfect for young time-travelers!
Poco the Tortoise - Snap a pic with Poco, our friendly life-size tortoise statue! He’s the first to greet you and a favorite spot for kids to climb and families to meet.
