The Bastrop County Historical Society's Museum & Visitor Center is located at the heart of downtown Bastrop at 904 Main Street. Considered the most historic small town in Texas due to the number of buildings protected under historic registries, Bastrop is a charming haven 30 minutes outside of Austin with plenty of history to explore and community events to enjoy.

And there is no more perfect place to start your visit to Bastrop than here! Our visitor center offers a large variety of brochures for Bastrop County and Central Texas. Our knowledgeable staff of Bastrop County locals love to give expert advice on places to dine, see, and visit.

The award-winning museum has an array of artifacts (one dating back thousands of years) that delve into the fascinating history of Bastrop County, which runs parallel to Texas history itself. From a rascally baron to the Lost Pines to the iconic Camino Real, you'll never know what or who you'll find!

Every month we offer a wide range of affordable, engaging events to interest all ages, from live concerts to history talks to programs for kids. There is always something going on!
