About the event
LUCIAN PERKINS, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, spent most of his 47-year career as a staff photographer for The Washington Post before branching into documentary filmmaking. Today, he remains deeply committed to documenting changes in our society, but increasingly, his attention—and affection—return to Bastrop, a place that has been part of his life since his parents bought a house near Main Street in 1959.
“Bastrop is undergoing a transformation,” he says. “On the one hand, the community is working to preserve and deepen its understanding of its history. On the other hand, its residents, both those rooted here and those drawn here from elsewhere, are exploring new ways to improve life through art, sustainable living, and entrepreneurship. For a photojournalist, witnessing this change is a historic opportunity.”
