About the event
The Bastrop County Museum & Visitor Center is launching a special Book Challenge for students in grades 4–8 in celebration of America 250 and Black History Month this February.
Running throughout February, the challenge features Forge by Laurie Halse Anderson—an exciting, action-packed historical novel that follows a young African American boy serving in the Continental Army during the American Revolution. Grounded in real historical documents and firsthand accounts, Forge offers young readers a meaningful way to reflect on the people and experiences that shaped America’s birth.
Each week, students can answer questions from designated sections of the book. Those who answer correctly will receive a coupon for a treat from Jeremiah’s Ice. Copies of Forge will also be available for purchase in the museum gift shop while supplies last. Check your local libraries for copies to borrow as well!
